In the heart of New York City...as many a good story goes...
Newtown Creek runs the border between Queens and Brooklyn, a Significant Maritime Industrial Area, with a legacy of industry spanning over a century. Its shape changed significantly as industry developed and along with that, its functionality as a tidal estuary. This project, ongoing, explores how Newtown Creek can function in its urban environment as an accessible park, storm water infiltration and cleansing machine, interface point with the public about the EPA Superfund cleanup process, and a station for bioremediation of the toxic legacy in its soils. To note, as a capstone project, I'll be presenting my completed project on Newtown in Mid-May.
